WELCOME TO SOMERSET AND PULASKI COUNTY 

The city of Somerset is located in Pulaski County and attracts multitudes of visitors in order to enjoy the many beautiful recreational areas. It is located only 3 hours from Nashville , Cincinnati , Knoxville and Louisville . The ideal location allows easy access weekends and extended family vacations.

With a solid economic base the citizens of Somerset take pride in their community, General Electric is only one of the counties 10 largest employers. Others include the Kingsford Products Company and Hackney H T Company , all of which are nationally known. The products of Pulaski County include aluminum wheels, pressed glassware, porcelain fixtures, lumber and wood products. There is an industrial park located with Pulaski County .

Agriculture generates more than $42 million to the Pulaski County economy annually. Tobacco is the largest cash crop. Dairy and livestock production exceeds $40 million annually.

ARTS & CULTURE 

Somerset boasts the community support of music, drama, dance and other art forms through the years. The Lake Cumberland Performing Arts Series, Inc. provides a varied series from funding from local businesses and a stable endowment fund.

The Somerfest Festival includes a Shriners' Parade, craft booths, food booths, musicians, athletic competitions and an International Street that includes a variety of cultures from around the world. Miss “Somerfest” is the beauty pageant.

Kentucky artists' works are presented at the 2-Days Gallery of contemporary works.

The Theatrical Department of Somerset Community College offer professional dramas and comedies.

SHOPPING

Local downtown merchants offer something for everyone. Somerset Mall features major national retailers, entertainment, specialty shops and a food court along with special demonstrations, exhibits, and performances in the court area.

EDUCATION

The public schools of Pulaski County have approximately 7,000 students with 8 elementary schools (K-5), 2 middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). The Somerset Science Hill system has elementary grades (1-8). The area also has two preschools and several private and public kindergartens as well as a Headstart program.

Kentucky Tech-Somerset Campus is a state vocational – technical for post secondary and high school students. Somerset Community College is a part of the University of Kentucky Community College System . Oakwood is a state operated training center that provides special assistance for physically and mentally challenged individuals.
